God & Sex is not Nityananda’s biopic: RGV
Hislast film, Rann, may have received mixed responses from critics and audiences, but Ram Gopal Varma is satisfied with his work. “I did complete justice tothe subject and don’t understand why people didn’t like it,”he says in his defence.
And Ramu continues to be a busy man.Up next is a film on Swami Nityananda. “It’s not a biopic, though hehas sparked my interest.

Devotees forget that godmen too are human, vulnerableto drives like power, fame, greed and sex,” he explains.
Thepower of sex is what RGV wants to explore in his next project. “I foundthis connection between god and sex - the title of the film - interesting toexplore. The script’s ready and we’ll cast once I’m done withRakta Charitra,” he adds.
Meanwhile, the director-producer haswrapped up the promotion for Phoonk 2. “The story takes off from the blackmagic woman, who dies in the first part, coming back from the dead. I’dcall this my first sequel because, unlike the Darna Mana Hai series, withPhoonk, the audience is familiar with the family, story and characters,”he says. Why didn’t he direct Phoonk 2? “Milind Gadagkar scriptedthe film and it was his idea to make a sequel to Phoonk. I thought he’dconnect with the subject in his own way,” Ramusays.
RGV’s Rakta Charitra is also taking shape. StarringSuriya, Priya Mani and Vivek Oberoi, the film is based on the true story of anAndhra gangster-turned-politician, Paritala Ravi. “It’s a true storyin my perception. In the process of getting closer to the truth, I became ajournalist, a detective and a psychoanalyst,” RGV says.
Sevenyears after launching Vivek Oberoi in Company, Ramu has signed the actor againto play the lead. “Vivek has remarkable intensity in his eyes and hisvoice commands attention,” he says. Suriya, Priya and Sudeep are from thesouth, and Phoonk 2 and Rakta... will also be released in Tamil and Telugu. Isthat his southern connection at work? “I select actors whom I haveknowledge of. I don’t sign them on the basis of the language the film willbe made in,” says RGV, adding, “I love the intense roles Suriya doesand Priya’s performance in Paruthi Veeran blew me away.”
